On Top of Old Smokey

On top of Old Smokey,
All covered with snow,
I lost my true lover,
For courting too slow.

For courting’s a pleasure,
But parting is grief,
And a false-hearted lover,
Is worse than a thief.

A thief will just rob you,
And take what you have,
But a false-hearted lover,
Will lead you to your grave.

The grave will decay you,
And turn you to dust,
Not one boy in a hundred
A poor girl can trust.

They’ll hug you and kiss you,
And tell you more lies,
Than crossties on a railroad,
Or stars in the sky.

So come ye young maidens,
And listen to me,
Never place your affection
In a green willow tree.

For the leaves they will wither,
The roots they will die,
And you’ll be forsaken,
And never know why.

my friend was humming this tune and singing the boy scouts version (which i am unable to locate, something about spaghetti and cheese) of it, so i started singing mine, and he was shell shocked that they sang such things to children (it was in my rosyth primary songbook!) and that this is the version i’ve known since childhood? but its true isnt it! why ARE we singing such things to children.

Sometime back I was out shopping at Takashimaya where they had a cartoon fest of sorts at the huge square at the basement…

Guy: I need to go to the restroom, so I’ll meet you out here in 10 mins ok?

Me: ok why don’t you meet me at Pull and Bear

Guy: ok *trots off to bathroom*

– 20 minutes later on the phone-

Guy: where are you, i’m at pooh, I can see the dinosaur but I don’t see you at all!

my (dark) chocolate fix

because i need to experiment debbie’s chocolate birthday cake, and because someONE only like dark chocolates, I tried a chocolate marshmellow with yesterday’s meringue chocolate cake today. in small portions. 🙂 its scary how i don’t need to look at recipes anymore. i’m told it means i should start studying instead of baking and fattening myself. and its true! on the days I have no school i eat the most and the best and spend the bulk of my free day cooking :s instead of starting on my essay like i should. tsk

tea time snacks

It’s probably unhealthily full of sugar, but it goes awfully well with my rosehip and hibiscus tea

walkabout

spent the long day out with rachel restaurant hunting for her birthday cum shopping though it was more of the latter. i think i had like 5 meals ++ today. and its pretty exhausting too, walking and walking and walking. but haji lane is nice quaint and i’m absolutely delighted with my only purchase of the day 🙂

 AND the FOOD of course.

i can’t remember the last time i ate so much. started with ba chor mee in the morning and horlicks, 6 fishballs and 3 nuggets in class, coffee AND tea, came home ate some more, drank chocolate milkshake, found that both parents abandoned me so, went out, scuttled to cab to arab street from little india and picked up jalebi (?) on the way, then down to my favourite bakery at 15 bussorah street for chocolate rapsberry tart and sticky cinnamon bun, then turkish hummus platter with bread and lamb with eggplant and cheese then vanilla milkshake and rach’s earl gray mint tea because weather was damn hot and the mood was lazy then walked the entirety of bussorah, muscat, and arab street, then the much talked about but slightly overrated but nonetheless interesting haji lane, then marks and spencer’s toffees while walking from river island to warehouse at raffles city, then dinner at tony roma’s, full slab baby’s back, french onion soup, potato skins, cheese sticks, buffalo wings, salad, though shared by all of us, but still. came home saw mummy’s coconut jelly in the fridge, could not resist. saw my own apple cake, last one left, so ate that as well. then came up to my room and lay on my bed amidst much queasiness :s

and was treated to a preview of awesome ready-made french toast which i cannot eat until christmas 😦

but very nice day, mid sem break is coming. time flies flies flies like its fleeing us all. havent figured out how the past month was spent. intensive classes for vietnamese investment law seems so faraway, though having to start on the essay is very imminent. but exciting in a nerdy way.

shall go drink milk to settle stomach now.

ugly handwriting

i have one of the ugliest handwriting i’ve ever seen myself. if it weren’t for the fact that i can’t tell the kidney from the liver, i might have been a doctor :s

Anyway the day was spent on apple-vanilla cake with cream cheese and butter cookies. evidently, i have much to improve on when it comes to handwriting.

On a side note, I’m glad my intensive is over, so now i only REALLY NEED to go to school on wed and sat if I skip evidence lectures, which is getting increasingly tempting, since i go there, only to sit and listen, but not understand hearsay anyway. -_-

the (ignorant) male psyche

me: Jimmy Choos are all a thousand upwards *explains patiently*

hanting: waaaah *&^%$# you might as well buy a wheelchair, then people will give way to you on MRT and you never have to take the stairs
